About Us

From its first performance of Handel’s “Messiah” in Ilkley Parish Church on 16 December 1949, Ilkley Choral Society has provided an opportunity for those who love singing together to enjoy the collective experience and to give pleasure to others through performances in the district.

Since that time, we have provided an opportunity for those who love to sing to explore a wide range of choral music, performing works from all ages and styles, ranging from Monteverdi to living composers such as Karl Jenkins and Howard Goodall.

For most of our concerts we join together with our sister society, Otley Choral Society, to present concerts between November and May each year in both Ilkley and Otley venues.

We also try to involve young people by working with schools in the area and joining with a local primary school to present a Christmas concert. It is hoped that this will help to attract new singers. Young people are always welcome to join us with a reduced fee if they are under 25.

We are passionate about keeping the English choral tradition alive and whilst striving for performances of a high standard, the emphasis is always on singing for pleasure and enjoyment.
